DONNITA PATTERSON-BROWN

Assistant Secretary, Missouri State Conference

Donnita Patterson-Brown and was born and raised in Schenectady, New York. She reflects varied personalities including friendly and ambitious, and the qualities of generosity and thoughtfulness. She is also a well determined and vigorous individual, yet pleasantly calm. She encourages fighting for what you desire and believe in and doing it through God because nothing great comes easy, and with God everything is possible. She is a wife to her husband Alvin for 36 yrs, a mother of 4 Adult children, Malcolm, Xzaviar, Shanea and Miyah, and grandmother of 6. She is a US Army Disabled Veteran and Retiree. She loves traveling and spending time with my family and friends.


Since her retirement on 1 Dec 2009, she has taken advantage of completing her BA in Criminal Justice Administration with Columbia College, and recently completing her MA in 2024 in Business and Organizational Security Management with Webster University. She is motivated by her love for learning and succeeding as she strives to become an outstanding and successful woman of today. She has definitive goals of continuing to serve, assist and protecting others, by providing them with the assistance and catalysts they need to connect with others. She likes to solve problems. She has found herself as the funnel that has been needed and used by others to be the spokesperson for a

variety of victims involved in various life situations. She has received training through the US Armed Services to be a Military Police Officer with special skills and the training in how to conduct investigations, with some special emphasis on being a liaison for sexual assault victims. She brings mindfulness to all those that come to her, she understands their privacy and takes that into consideration when speaking to others and make sure to instill confidence before

rendering assistance or direction, whether they are in her community or not. Developing rapport with those she assists is important.


She has been driven by her intellectual curiosity to find answers to the most pressing questions, especially how she can inform, educate and remove barriers of racial discrimination through the democratic process, which led her to becoming a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, of which she is a Lifetime Member and has served as the local Branch President for two terms and as a Branch Secretary for several years before. She is currently serving as the Assistant Secretary of the Missouri State Conference as well as being an active participant with the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition (MOVPC). She is also the Secretary for the Saint Robert Historical Preservation Committee; their mission is to broaden the historical knowledge of the public and the community of historical sites and documents in the Pulaski County and surrounding areas. She has also been empowered and inspired by the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), who believes in fighting for voting rights and protecting the freedom to vote.


She has also been an Independent Business Owner and Senior Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Inc. for 13 years, which is known for personal skin care products and cosmetics. A favorite quote by Mary Kay Ash, that she follows and admires is, “God First, Family Second, Business Last.”
